Our Antenatal Services

Exercise during pregnancy makes sense. It prepares you for labour and subsequent motherhood. Perhaps more importantly, is that it makes you feel better during your pregnancy as exercise helps to alleviate many of the discomforts associated with pregnancy. It also increases your confidence towards your birth. We know labour is hard work and requires a great deal of stamina. Then it's straight in at the deep end looking after a new baby, which is both physically and emotionally demanding.

Pilates for a Confident Labour

Pilates is a relaxing form of exercise well suited to the needs of pregnant women as it concentrates on stability, posture, breathing and focusing the mind. In the last trimester the emphasis is on breathing and relaxation techniques plus strengthening pelvic floor and increasing pelvic stability. We also share and discuss fears of labour and the worries of becoming a new mum and as they say a problem shared is a problem halved.

When Can I Start Exercising?

As with all Baby Starfish programs, you will be required to complete a full health screening questionnaire to assess your suitability for the class. It is possible to attend during the first trimester if you have had no complications with your pregnancy or with previous pregnancies. If you have suffered previous miscarriages or have had any bleeding we advise you to start from the second trimester. As this class is a small group we are able to take women of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels.
